Lipedema is autosomal dominant with incomplete penetrance.

FML is autosomal dominant.

Several sources have reported the existence of a genetic link for lipedema, with a range between 16-64% of female family members also having lipedema [1]. Two groups have been studying the genetic link, Dr Peter Mortimer in the UK [2] and a university in Pennsylvania [3].
